From the Cottage: Why My House Always Smells Like Herbs and Bread

If you're wondering what it’s like to live in a cottage in the middle of summer, here’s a quick snapshot: sun streaming through lace curtains, a loaf of sourdough cooling on the counter, and a slightly concerning number of mason jars labeled “tea stuff” on every surface.
Living in a cottage isn’t just a Pinterest aesthetic — it’s a lifestyle that says, yes, I do grow basil in an old enamel mug, and no, I will not stop romanticizing it.
This month’s cottage mood? Low-maintenance luxury. We're talking slow mornings, barefoot afternoons in the garden, and iced coffee sipped from vintage glasses you definitely got at a thrift shop “for 25 cents and a story.”
Here are a few of my current From the Cottage rituals keeping things charming and slightly feral in the best way:
🍞 Baking bread at 7am because it’s too hot by 10 and somehow that feels very responsible.
🌿 Snipping herbs like I’m a contestant on Cottagecore Chopped. (Spoiler: everything ends up in butter or sun tea.)
🧺 Hanging laundry outside because the sun is free, and dryer sheets are too aggressively scented.
📻 Listening to old French music on a crackly speaker like I’m in a movie montage about falling back in love with life.
🌸 Putting wildflowers in every jar I own until it looks like a meadow moved in and refuses to pay rent.
Cottage life in summer is basically about making everyday things feel like a vibe. And honestly? It’s working. So if you need me, I’ll be rearranging my entryway (again), soaking up the quiet, and pretending I live in a Nancy Meyers movie.
Until next time,🌞
Stay soft, stay grounded, and always say yes to the pie,
Carina
